The sea of mediocrity and its authors’ time-consuming ploys to game the system are exactly why good content can’t find its way to readers organically. Writing clickbait won’t gain you a lasting audience—but it does work very well when it comes to depriving great work of any attention. People who spend time learning to write (the next person who says “hone your craft” gets a fucking wedgie) can’t spend that time gaming the system.

Here’s a good rule of thumb, by the way: If you refer to writing as “content,” chances are you are mediocre. The word “content” implies that writing is there to fill up and serve blogs, not vice-versa. Which may be true from a marketing point of view, but from an artistic point of view it’s garbage. Not that you could call the OP artistic in any way. He’s just very good at clickbait… this is so meta, it’s almost admirable, in that way that you sort of admire the villain in a well-written Chinese soap opera.

Author of NVSQVAM, DISASTER FITNESS, the upcoming ELEKTRA’S REVENGE sci-fi epic, & the action novella SEINE VENDETTA. Editor of YOU’RE ALL PUSSIES.
